The extreme Right: Part I – “And the Right knocked on the doors of darkness…”

“And the moon knocked on the doors of darkness…” went a famous song by Loredana Bertè… yes, the moon… the moon that gifts us emotions, sensations, imaginations… the moon that tells us stories, legends, myths… the moon that embraces us, protects us, and makes life as we know it today possible…!

And now, it is the Right that “is knocking on the doors of darkness…” yes, the Right… a Right that is more and more xenophobic, nationalist, extreme… a Right steeped in slogans, promises, demands… a Right rooted in a historical-cultural legacy made of myths, legends, and stories that evoke ancestral, past, and buried dynamics… that, in reality, are not quite so buried after all!

And indeed, about 80 years after the end of the Second World War, the extreme Right is once again emerging into a World that is listless, exhausted, debased… a World that seems drained of its essence, its energy, its influence… a World where the rule of law gives way to the law of the cunning, the domineering, the strong… a World where the struggles, battles, and conquests regarding rights by now seem like something distant, ethereal, past…!

And it is precisely in this World that the extreme Right is re-emerging… a Right that faces a partial lack of response from those who championed, spread, and defended these rights… a Right that encounters profound bewilderment regarding the perception of a reality shifting day by day… a Right that faces utter darkness…
